Interventions for helping people recognise early signs of recurrence in depression

The overall aim is to measure the effectiveness of EWS interventions in people with recurrent depressive episodes or their carers, or both. The objectives are:

  1. To compare the effect of an EWS intervention plus TAU versus TAU.
  2. To compare the effect of an EWS interventions alone versus any other kind of active treatment or control, on time to next depressive episode.

TAU includes pharmacological interventions and psychological interventions such as CBT, IPT, MBCT, behavioural activation, and self-help support based on the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). ‘Any other kind of intervention' to prevent recurrence of depression may, for example, include befriending services or physical activity interventions.

This is a protocol.
