Title: Legal & Compliance Specialist   
Specifications: Fixed term contract for 1 year, 4 days per week
Salary: £40,000 per annum at 4 days (£50,000 per annum full-time)
Location: Remote first (home based) with some travel expected for in person meetings

Our Central Executive Team supports this work and is divided into four directorates. This role reports to the Legal Counsel and sits within the Legal team in the Finance and Corporate Services (FCS) Directorate. 

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Manage the contracts and data protection mailboxes and support internal stakeholders by fielding contractual and data protection queries,    
  • Prepare consultancy agreements and issue various amendments including term extensions and changes to commercial specifications,
  • Prepare and send out collaboration agreements for signatures, implement various changes where required,
  • Draft, review and negotiate a range of supplier contracts, including consultancy, services, SaaS/technology, venue and event agreements as well as data processing agreements,
  • Collate and maintain the Record of Processing Activities and assist with Subject Access Request,
  • Maintain up -to-date and accurate records on the contract management system including the signature process of contracts (including chasing) and any associated reporting,
  • Support the Legal Counsel with reviewing and improving the Legal Team’s processes and ways of working, including any legal research where appropriate and as required,
  • Create and maintain legal policies, processes and guidance.

The successful candidate is expected to have:

  • Newly qualified solicitor, Contract Manager or paralegal/legal assistant with at least one year of experience in a comparable role,
  • Experience of contracts law and ideally data protection,
  • Ability to identify risks and issues and propose solutions,
  • Ability to provide pragmatic advice to all levels of the organisation,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly, concisely and accurately,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to integrate well into the team and the wider organisation,
  • Ability to work methodically and accurately and prioritise workload effectively,
  • Good understanding of when to escalate matters to the Legal Counsel and/or seek external expertise,
  • Good IT skills and the ability to use a range of software effectively,
  • Ability to successfully work remotely and be self-motivated and proactive,
  • Enthusiasm for developing legal skills and knowledge.
