Vitamin D with or without calcium for treating osteoporosis in postmenopausal women

This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (intervention). The objectives are as follows:

The objective of this review is to determine the effectiveness of concurrent vitamin D and calcium, and vitamin D supplementation alone on bone loss in postmenopausal women.

A previous review has been carried out by Gillespie et al. (Gillespie 1996) looking at vitamin D supplementation and fracture prevention.

We will test the following hypothesis: The use of vitamin D and calcium, or vitamin D supplementation alone slows bone loss and has a beneficial effect on bone density of women in the post menopausal period.

This is a protocol.
