  • Abbreviations - possessives and plurals: modified examples by separating examples using possessives and plurals.
  • Abbreviations - to avoid and commonly used: deleted "Examples" subheading and replaced it with "Abbreviations to avoid" and "Abbreviations commonly used in Cochrane reviews"; examples moved to appropriate subheadings; modified wording for "Day"; and added "Latin abbreviations used for dosing" to "Abbreviations to avoid".
  • Colon: new subheading and guidance added.
  • References - supplements: removed supplement table; now refers people to Appendix E of the RevMan User Guide.
  • References - reference and study identifiers: modified text about using reference and study identifiers in text.
  • RevMan specific style notes: Added a link to guidance for "Additional figures" and inserted subheadings to make this section clearer.
  • Structure of a Cochrane review: new subheading and guidance added.

  • Gram-negative/Gram-positive bacteria: moved to ‘Terminology’.
  • Headings and subheadings: clarified some of the descriptions of each heading type.
  • Measurement ranges: changed to ‘Ranges of numbers’.
  • Prefixes: added some more examples.
  • References in the text: order for listing references in the text has changed.
  • References in the text – Cochrane reviews: added guidance about when to use issue with an upper case ‘I’ and a lower case ‘i’.
  • References in the reference lists – journal article title: added guidance.
  • References in the reference lists – journal title: added guidance about journals that have changed their names.
  • References in the reference lists – journal title: added guidance about non-English language journals.
  • Tautology: added guidance.
  • Terminology: added new words.
  • Terminology – low-, middle-, and high-income countries: guidance modified.

  • Headings and subheadings: the Publishing Policy Group approved changes to the format of headings and subheadings. We have included this new guidance.
