Systemic glucocorticoids do not appear to have a clinically significant effect on the course of acute viral bronchiolitis in infants and young children
Systemic glucocorticoids (for example prednisone), have known anti-inflammatory effects, and have been used in young children with acute viral bronchiolitis for over 40 years. A meta-analysis found 13 studies involving 1,198 affected children. No benefits from glucocorticoids were found for either length of hospital stay or clinical score. Neither were benefits found for other outcomes. Systemic glucocorticoids do not provide clinical benefit for infants and young children with acute viral bronchiolitis.
