2.1.6 Country names in Cochrane publications

The country names which are published as part of author affiliations in Cochrane reviews in The Cochrane Library, and contact details for Cochrane entities on www.cochrane.org and potentially other derivatives of Cochrane output, follow the ISO 3166 country list (www.iso.org/iso/country_codes/iso_3166_code_lists/english_country_names_and_code_elements.htm), with a few exceptions. The ISO 3166 country list is published and maintained by the International Standards Organization (ISO) (Codes for the representation of names of countries and their subdivisions - Part 1: Country codes).

The country names on the ISO 3166 list are implemented as selectable, non-editable fields in the Collaboration’s software, RevMan and Archie. It is not possible to publish country names which do not exist on the ISO list, with the following approved exceptions:

Suggestions for additional exceptions should be emailed for approval to The Cochrane Collaboration’s Chief Executive Officer, Nick Royle (nroyle@cochrane.org), before they can be implemented in the Collaboration’s software.
