Osteoarthritis is a common joint disease, causing a large amount of pain and disability, especially in the elderly. Eveline Nueesch, from Berne in Switzerland, describes a Cochrane review of opioids as a means of relieving this pain, which has been updated with funding from Swiss National Science Foundation
