Sender: Mike Clarke [mclarke@cochrane.co.uk] Subject: Future of the Cochrane Cancer Network Having undergone difficulties in securing future funding and support, it has been agreed that the Cochrane Cancer Network should be held in 'hibernation' until further notice. The Network will remain a registered but dormant Cochrane entity. If the necessary support and funding become available, its status will be reconsidered at that time. If you are interested in working with others to re-establish the Network please contact Mike Clarke, Director of the reference Cochrane Centre for the Network (details below). The Cochrane Cancer Network is the Cochrane Field responsible for representing cancer, one of the leading causes of death in the world, particularly in developing countries; and for providing an overview of Cochrane Collaboration activity in this important area of health care. The Network's functions include: * Identifying reports of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) relevant to cancer and making them accessible * Ensuring that cancer is appropriately represented in Cochrane reviews * Acting as a liaison point between The Cochrane Collaboration and the global cancer community * Promoting access to Cochrane reviews relevant to cancer * Identifying funding opportunities for Cochrane activity in the field of cancer Contact details: Mike Clarke, Director, UK Cochrane Centre Tel: +44-1865-516300 email: mclarke@cochrane.co.uk XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX B. The EQUATOR (Enhancing the QUAlity and Transparency Of health Research) plans to become a recognised global centre providing resources and training relating to the reporting of health research and assisting in the development, dissemination and implementation of reporting guidelines. We have recently launched our web based resource centre that provides a collection of reporting guidelines (www.equator-network.org/) and other free resources. In near future we will also offer relevant training for journal editors, peer reviewers and researchers (authors). The initiative is being led by the international steering group (D. Altman, D. Moher, K. Schulz, J. Hoey) with great input from other reporting guideline development teams, journal editors, information specialists, research funders and other individuals interested in research reporting. We believe our website will be of great benefit to your work.
