Sender: Leonard Leibovici [leibovic@post.tau.ac.il] Subject: Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy An editorial on systematic reviews in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (I attach a copy). We welcome submissions of Cochrane reviews to the JAC. The reviews will go through the peer-review process of the JAC, and we will be careful to mention that they will be (or were) published in the Cochrane Library as well, and will be updated there. The Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy is among the foremost international journals in antimicrobial research. Our readership includes representatives of academia, industry and health services, and includes those who are influential in formulary decisions. Published monthly, the Journal features original articles on the laboratory aspects and clinical use of antimicrobials including antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiprotozoal agents. It has an impact factor of 3.61. Best wishes. Leonard Leibovici. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX B. Sender: Kieran J. The focus of the program is to increase awareness of the use of best evidence in making health care management decisions. It will provide hands-on experience in developing the essential skills and necessary methods to practicing high-quality, evidence based pediatric care. Participants will rotate through small group sessions on informatics and critical appraisal in addition to large group sessions by leaders in the field. Our guest speakers are Dr. Craig Mellis, MBBS, Professor and Associate Dean, Central Clinical School, University of Sydney. Assoc. Editor of the BMJ publication, Evidence Based Pediatrics and Child Health and Dr. Maria Britto, Assoc. Prof. of Adolescent Medicine and Pursuing Perfection grantee, who will lecture on Incorporating Evidence into Practice: Ideas from Improvement and Reliability Sciences. The workshop is designed for faculty, fellows, community physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and clinicians with a desire to learn, practice and teach explicit methods for providing high-quality evidence-based pediatric care to their patients and families. Is there a way to post this notice on your website or that of the larger collaboration? Thanks, Kieran J. Sender: Ida Sim [simi@who.int] Subject: World Health Organization trial registry platform Dear Colleagues, The WHO's International Clinical Trial Registry Platform is in the midst of soliciting comments on international norms and standards for trial registration and reporting. We are 1. finalizing the information that must be reported for a trial to be registered 2. defining criteria for "valid" registers, and plan to start certifying registers in early 2006 3. defining a standard process for issuing the WHO CT-UID (Clinical Trial Unique ID) for global unique identification of trials 4. planning on launching a one-stop search portal for trials worldwide The draft policies for points 1 to 3 above are in an Open Comment phase, and we would very much like to hear from the Cochrane community on these proposals, all of which are on our website. Please visit http://www.who.int/ictrp, where you can also sign up for our email list and newsletter. If you are a register administrator, please sign up for the register administrators list so we can keep you updated on developing policies. Of note, we are looking for a better name than WHO CT-UID for the global trial ID. Any suggestions? Sender: Jodie Doyle [jdoyle@vichealth.vic.gov.au] Subject: UK Co-Directorship of Health Promotion and Public Health Field The former Co-Director of the Cochrane Health Promotion and Public Health Field, Rebecca Rees, has changed roles within the UK EPPI Centre and it is with pleasure that we can announce that Sandy Oliver from the EPPI-Centre has agreed to take on the Co-Director position, effective immediately. Sandy brings a great deal of expertise and experience with her to this role, as a prolific writer of many systematic reviews, including being an author of two Cochrane reviews and two Cochrane protocols. She has been involved in the Health Promotion and Public Health Field since its inception. As a grant holder on the EPPI-Centre's health promotion work for the Department of Health in England and Wales, she has played an active role in decision-making for the EPPI-Centre's Field work. She therefore has a very good overview of both current developments and has kept abreast of previous work of EPPI Centre Co-Directors. Thanks to Rebecca for her dedication to the Field over the last year and we look forward to continued input from her into Field activities. Elizabeth Waters remains as Co-Director of the Field from its central administrative base in Australia.
