Mayhew [amayhe2@uottawa.ca] Subject: New EPOC satellite The scope of the Cochrane EPOC Group is to undertake systematic reviews of educational, behavioural, financial, regulatory and organisational interventions designed to improve health professional practice and the organisation of health care services. Under the direction of EPOC editor Andy Oxman, an EPOC satellite has now been established and officially launched in Oslo. The Oslo satellite will focus on supporting the production and updating of Cochrane reviews that address health systems questions that are relevant to low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). The satellite is staffed by Elizabeth Paulsen (Coordinator), Marit Johansen (Trials Search Coordinator), Jan Odgaard-Jensen (Statistician) and Susan Munabi-Babigumira (Currently acting coordinator). Support for this satellite is provided by the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services and the Norwegian agency for development cooperation (Norad). Sender: Atkinson, Jan [janeta@liverpool.ac.uk] Subject: Workshop - Outcome reporting bias in meta-analysis Workshop: Identifying and assessing the impact of outcome reporting bias in meta-analysis Host: Centre for Medical Statistics and Health Evaluation and Liverpool Reviews & Implementation Group Date: 9 May 2007 Location: The University of Liverpool, Liverpool, U.K. Cost: There is no fee for this workshop Details: This workshop is aimed at those who conduct systematic reviews with examples being reviews of medical interventions. Within-study selective reporting bias has been defined as the selection, on the basis of the results, of a subset of the analyses undertaken to be included in a study publication (Hutton and Williamson 2000). Sources of such reporting bias will be described however the workshop will focus on outcome reporting bias. The objective of the workshop is to provide the reviewer with a background to the problem of outcome reporting bias and how it might lead to misleading conclusions, to demonstrate how a reviewer might assess the likely presence of such bias in their review, and to present simple techniques for assessing the robustness of the meta-analysis to such bias. The workshop has been developed through applications in clinical research, and was run at the recent Cochrane Colloquium. http://www.liv.ac.uk/medstats/courses.htm Contact: For a Registration form please email Jan Atkinson, janeta@liv.ac.uk or telephone 0044 151 794 5067.
