Sender: Steve McDonald [mailto:steve.mcdonald@med.monash.edu.au] Subject: Exploratory Meeting for a Cochrane Nursing Care Network This is to inform all Cochrane entities of an Exploratory Meeting for a Cochrane Nursing Care Network to be held in Dundee, Scotland on Monday 30th April 2007. The origins of this proposal began in 2006 when preliminary discussions took place between The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and the Australasian Cochrane Centre. Subsequently, the Institute received funding from the Australian Government for a period of two years to support the initial establishment of the entity. The establishment of a Cochrane Nursing Care Network is proposed to engage nurses with the Cochrane Collaboration and to represent nursing care to Review Groups and Fields. Over a period of 10 years JBI has built up an extensive international network of health researchers and health professionals interested in systematic reviews, suggesting that there is now an international readiness for a large number of those we work with to become active, productive, interdisciplinary participants in the Cochrane enterprise. The proposal considers greater involvement of nurses in Cochrane activities essential for an increase in the uptake of evidence, through the use of The Cochrane Library, within the international health community. The Exploratory Meeting will occur on Monday 30th April 2007 in Dundee, Scotland - venue to be confirmed shortly. The meeting date has been chosen to coincide with the Royal College of Nursing 2007 International Nursing Research Conference (http://www.man.ac.uk/rcn/research2007/), 1st – 4th May 2007. Those interested in attending the Exploratory Meeting or discussing the proposal further should contact Amanda O’Connell.
