Sender: Lucie Jones [LJones@cochrane.org] Subject: Proposal to establish formalized relations between The Cochrane Collaboration and the World Health Organization (WHO) On behalf of the Cochrane Collaboration Steering Group (CCSG): As you may be aware, a number of individuals and entities within The Cochrane Collaboration have worked closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) in various capacities over the last ten years. We are aiming to formalize the relationship between the two organizations by establishing The Cochrane Collaboration as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Official Relations (OR) with WHO. This will enable the Collaboration and WHO to have formalized communication, including a seat on the World Health Assembly for providing input on WHO health resolutions. As part of establishing OR, the Collaboration must submit a list of all activities on which its contributors and/or entities currently, or propose to, collaborate with WHO, in both formal and informal settings. An email has already been sent to the contact people of all entities, including a form on which they can document collaborative activity. We need to record all Cochrane-WHO collaborative activity, including instances where individuals contribute to both The Cochrane Collaboration and WHO but are not 'official' representatives of either organization. Should you have any queries on what constitutes 'collaborative activity' please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be grateful if you would inform the contact person in your Cochrane entity of any collaborations you have with WHO for inclusion on this form, or email me directly. The deadline for entities to return forms to me is 29 October 2008.
