Cochrane Collaboration's work discussed on GiveWell blog
GiveWell is a US-based, independent charity evaluator. It operates on a non-profit basis and aims to provide information to enable donors to target charitable contributions as effectively as possible. In a recent entry on its organizational blog entitled "Meta-research", GiveWell defines meta-research as "improving...incentives in the academic world, to bring them more in line with producing work of maximal benefit to society."
In a lengthy discussion of parameters, benefits, and practitioners of meta-research, GiveWell characterizes The Cochrane Collaboration as an example of an organization conducting "valuable and high-quality" meta-research, and concludes that, pending further investigation, "[GiveWell] believes that The Cochrane Collaboration may turn out to be an excellent giving opportunity."
