New websites for The Cochrane Library and The Cochrane Collaboration

posted on: 2010-04-01 13:41

The official launch of the new websites for The Cochrane Library (thecochranelibrary.com) and The Cochrane Collaboration (cochrane.org) took place on 17 March 2010 to coincide with the publication of Issue 3 of the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR).

The Cochrane Library homepage and related information pages have a new design. There are new features, including a browse list for the CDSR (by system, such as ‘Lungs and airways’), an Editorial, and Special Collections (to highlight specific groupings of reviews). The related information pages, such as ‘About The Cochrane Library’ and ‘Help’, have been revised and reorganized to make content navigation easier. Clear linkage to cochrane.org has also been introduced in the website header.

The Cochrane Collaboration site, cochrane.org, has two groups of users: visitors to The Cochrane Collaboration and people within The Cochrane Collaboration. This is reflected in the development of the site into public and internal areas (for Collaboration contributors only) to facilitate better navigation for both user groups. The focus of the re-launch is on  providing a simpler, more user-friendly experience for all users, in particular visitors to The Cochrane Collaboration website. Both core content (About us, About Cochrane Reviews and others) and site navigation have been improved.  The branding of the website is complementary to that of The Cochrane Library site with a prominent link in the header to The Cochrane Library. The internal, Archie-authenticated area of the new cochrane.org represents the beginnings of a Collaboration intranet. This is a ‘work in progress’, although available to view and use, and will continue to be developed further in the future.

We welcome your feedback on the redesigns: for The Cochrane Library, contact Harriet MacLehose at the Cochrane Editorial Unit; and for cochrane.org, contact the Cochrane Web Team at web@cochrane.org.
