Instructions for adding multiple images in the EWB system

Currently, in the EWB system, users can only add one image per page. There is a workaround that will allow users to create the illusion of multiple images on a page.

1.      Say, you have 3 images you wish to included on a page of your site. Open your preferred image editing software (Photoshop or similar) or simply use one of many free image-editing tools. A very simple method is to use the Paint program in Windows – usually located under Programs>>Accessories>>Paint. Let's use Paint for this task.

2.      Open the Paint program and then select File>>Open and navigate to your first image, in this case “image1.jpg”. The image opens:

3.      Now, we’ll need to adjust the canvas size of the image so we can add the next two images. Select Image>>Attributes and make the width 450 px (the maximum for the EWB template) and the height we’ll make 1000 for now. If it’s too much, we can resize later. Now we have more white space to work with:

4.      Now, select Edit>>'Paste from' and navigate to “image2.jpg” – the image appears on top of image1.jpg but we can move it down underneath image1 by dragging it. Like this:

5.      Repeat step 4 for “image3.jpg”. Now we have our 3 images:

6.      But, way too much white space. So, use the “Select” tool:

to select the area containing the 3 images:

and then right-click in the selected area and select 'Copy to' and save as a bitmap (.bmp) image. Then, open this .bmp image with the Paint program and select File>>Save as and save the file as a .jpg file.

7.      Now, use the image upload tool in the EWB – login to Archie and right-click on the “Files” folder under your entity and select New>>File

and navigate to the .jpg file containing the multiple images. The image is now accessible to the EWB and can be included in any page.

8.      Each includable page in the EWB has an “Add/Change Image” button that allows users to upload a single image. It looks like this:

9.      Click “Add/Change Image” and you will see this dialog box:

10. Navigate to your single .jpg file that contains the multiple images you wish to position on this page.

11. When you publish your site, the image (with the multiple images embedded in it) will appear on the page.

We hope to provide the functionality to add multiple images in a future release of the EWB, but for now, this is the easiest and most reliable workaround.
