Introduction: I will consider ways in which systematic reviews could be improved, from formulating the question, through the protocol and data analysis to interpretation. I will consider in particular the issue of when it is reasonable to carry out a formal meta- analysis, and the question of both the strength and quality of evidence when interpreting the findings of a systematic review.
