Pars plana vitrectomy versus scleral buckle for repairing simple rhegmatogenous retinal detachments

  • The primary objective of this review is to assess the effectiveness of PPV versus scleral buckling for the treatment of simple RRD (primary RRD of any extention with up to two clock hours large break/s regardless of their anterior/posterior localisation) in phakic and pseudophakic/aphakic patients.
  • A secondary objective is to determine If PPV in combination with scleral buckling might give better results than scleral buckling or PPV alone, and which of these surgical methods has better results according to the lens status (phakia, pseudophakia/aphakia), duration of the detachment and number/localisation of retinal tears.

This is a protocol.
